Gene Wesley Sloan, 76, died surrounded by his family at his home in Evanston, Wyo., on Feb. 1, 2006.
Mr. Sloan was born July 8, 1929, in Elk City, Okla., the son of Virgil Wesley and Gladys Faye (McMillin) Sloan. He married Lavonda Sue Fogelman on Dec. 23, 1969 in Big Piney, Wyo.
He spent most of his working career as a school teacher and, after retiring from teaching, worked in the water industry, installing water purification systems into people’s homes. He loved to solve problems. He also loved to spend time thinking and working on new inventions.
He enjoyed driving, helping people and visiting with people. He never met a stranger.
One of his favorite things to do was to sit down and enjoy a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream with his grandchildren.
Mrs. Sloan is survived by his wife, Sue of Evanston, Wyo.; his children, Scott Wilder, of Issaquah, Wash., Randall Wilder (Brenda) of Odessa, Fla., Britt Sloan of Evanston, Wyo., Richard (Dulce’) Sloan of West Valley, Utah., and Craig Williams of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his mother, Judy Sloan, of Sweet Home; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Aspen Grove Baptist Church in Evanston, Wyo., with Pastor Paul Nebeker officiating.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Aspen Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home of Evanston.
