The Husky girls basketball team named Hannah Swanson and Nicki Aerni its most valuable players at the annual awards dessert held on Feb. 28.
Swanson also received the free-throw award, and Sara Brocard received the hustle award. Aernie received most inspirational, and Erika Snow and Olivia Lake were most improved. Tabby Trahan was named defensive player of the year.
Swanson was named to the Capital Conference third-team all-league.
Receiving first-year letters were juniors Ashley Bertucci, Michelle Aerni, Olivia Lake and Breanne Messmer.
Juniors Sara Brocard and Erika Snow received second-year letters.
Senior Nicki Aerni received her third letter in basketball.
Senior Hannah Swanson received her fourth letter.
The team loses two seniors, Aerni and Swanson, but has a large core of juniors returning with “a couple of other kids coming up, Coach Jason Gorham said. “It’s hard to replace Hannah and Nicki. Hannah’s been our starting point guard for three years.”
Gorham sees the younger players stepping up next year, he said. “Our JV team was competitive all season long.”
The team finished with a record just under .500.
“There’s some kids on that squad that are going to be able to come up and help us,” Gorham said. This year’s juniors have a lot of experience now with a good off-season schedule planned.
