The Husky girls’ basketball team defeated Taft at home Thursday night 50-27 and lost to Philomath 62-37 on Feb. 6 on the road.
“The kids came out really aggressively early on and got a lot of confidence from that,” Coach Jason Gorham said of the Taft game. That confidence carried them to a solid win.
The Huskies reached a 20-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. They were led by Tabby Trahan with 11 points and Sara Brocard with seven on the quarter. Erika Snow topped it off with two free throws.
The Huskies pressured Taft’s offense and turned forced turnovers into points, Gorham said.
Trahan led scoring with 14; Brocard, 13; Snow; six; Jenny Hamn, four; Ashley Danielson, three; Alisha Huschka, two; Paige Niemi, two; Becky Spencer, two; and Nicole Fagan, two.Annie Lascano led Taft with 10 points.
Against Philomath, “it wasn’t really so much the offensive end,” Gorham said. “We were able to score some shots. Defensively, we made some mistakes that gave them good looks at the basket.
“They (Philomath) played really well. That might be the best I’ve seen them play this year.”
Philomath established a 16-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 35-16 lead by halftime. Philomath led 47-26.
Brocard led scoring with nine points. Hamn added eight; Marchbanks, six; Alex Thompson, four; Niemi, four; Nicole Fagan, two; Danielson, three; Spencer, one.
