The Sweet Home High School girls put another notch in their win column Friday night, defeating Crook County 32-24 on the road in basketball.
Though theHuskies had a hard time at the foul line, shooting just 14-32, off from a usual average of 70 percent; they played great defense and good offense, said Coach Steve Brown. Crook County was aggressive and hands-on, stripping the ball a few times, but overall, the girls didn’t turn it over on their own mistakes.
The hosts built a 6-0 lead in the first quarter before Ally Tow hit a three to spark things for the Huskies. Sweet Home trailed 6-3 after a quarter, but they came back and led 12-10 at halftime.
“We had good pressure,” Brown said. “Everybody played their tails off. We played really tough aggressive, man-to-man defense.”
Sweet Home cracked the lead open a little more in the third, 22-18, before scoring everything, except a single field goal, from the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Tow led scoring with 19 points and five blocks.
Brittany Brownell was clutch in the fourth, Brown said. She scored all six of her points in the fourth quarter, including a field goal and a 4-4 show at the charity stripe.
Chiara DiMola played “unreal defense,” Brown said, and Ashley Wickline locked down a steal at the end of the game.
“Everybody played really well,” Brown said. “I was really pleased.”
