The Huskies rolled over Douglas High School 7-0 on the road in girls soccer Thursday.
At home on Sept. 6, the Huskies defeated Tillamook 4-1.
Cora McKee got things going for the Huskies at Douglas, scoring in less than a minute.
Kenzi Adams passed the ball to McKee “from the back, right from the middle of the field,” said Coach Ramiro Santana. “(McKee) got the ball, dribbled to it,” beating Douglas defenders with her speed and scoring the shot.
Milah Weld put the ball in the net seven minutes later.
She took another pass from the back and beat the defense to score, Santana said.
McKee scored again in the minutes 11 and 21. Adams scored a goal in the minute 31, to take a 5-0 lead.
Santana said he subbed in his JV and swing players to start getting some varsity experience, and the Huskies finished the half 5-0.
Torree Hawken scored a shot in 21 minutes in to the second half, and Chloe Newport rounded out Huskies scoring with a corner kick in the minute 28.
“That was nice to see,” Santana said.
“We totally, pretty much took over,” Santana said. “we kind of almost did the same thing we did with Umpqua.”
Defense played well too, Santana said. The keeper got her hands on the ball three or four times.
Right now, “our speed is good, our passing is getting better, really good communication forward side,” Santana said. Weld, McKee and Bethany Gingerich are “doing really good taking advantage of the opportunities that we have.”
Ashley Farthing is playing center mid well, distributing the ball and making good passes outside, Santana said. Sydney Mauer on defense and Gingerich in forward are playing the same way in their positions center field.
In the back, Chloe Newport played as a fourth defender, filling in for Hannah Jewett, who was out on a red card in the previous game, Santana said. She did a great job talking to the other defenders, and they were listening to her.
Tillamook was “a stronger team,” Santana said. “They made us think a little more.”
Tillamook was pushier and more physical, Santana said. “It was more challenging for the girls.”
McKenzie Yoder, Hawken and Kendyl Stutzman were all hurt during the game, and Stutzman had to remain on the sidelines in the following game.
“They beat us up a little bit,” Santana said. “Speedwise, we beat them. Passing was a little better.”
Gingerich scored the first goal seven minutes into the game. She scored again 11 minutes later.
McKee put the ball into the net in the minute 24, and Elizabeth Chelstad scored in the minute 28, to build a 4-0 halftime lead.
After subbing in his JV at halftime, Tillamook scored in about the minute 25.
The Huskies are 3-0 on the season after last week’s games.
“So far, we’re doing really good,” Santana said Monday. “So far, it looks like we’re starting to settle and getting ready for our season. Tomorrow is our last game of the preseason. We will have a better test tomorrow (against Newport). Newport is doing really well right now.”
The Huskies haven’t seen the toughest teams yet, “but I think we will surprise those teams,” Santana said. “I’ve got nine girls who graduated last year.”
Everyone knew the Wickline twins were tough, he said, but “I think we’re much better this year. Our team is more mentally focused and better at passing this year.”
On Saturday, the JV tied Creswell 1-1. Hawken scored the Huskies goal in the first half. Creswell tied the game near the end of the game. Santana said Ashtyn Walker played well at forward during the game.
