For The New Era
It was senior day last Tuesday as the girls water polo team played its last game of the regular season and the seniors were honored for their contributions to the sport.
In their final home game, the Huskies lost a close one 13-10 against the West Salem Titans.
Sami Webb and Laura Gourley led scoring with four goals each and Katie Kinney with two. Two assists each came from goalie Cheryl Webb and Laura Gourley. Scoring one assist each were Katie Kinney, Katie Turner and Niccole Simmonds.
As of the last home game, senior Laura Gourley was the leading scorer on the team plus team co-captain. Gouley, a fierce competitor, made her presence known in the pool on both offense and defense. She is not only a water polo player but a competitor at the national level in wrestling. She will be traveling to New York to compete and possibly win a thousand dollars.
Senior Norajean Lemar played good offense and defense, breaking up many offensive plays by the opposition.
Senior Katie Kinney is the second leading scorer. She led the team in assists and was co-captain. Katie played a major role scoring assists and goals dominating the center of the pool with Gourley. Kinney also played the National Anthem on her saxophone before all home games.
