Girls finish behind Cottage Grove in home match

The Sweet Home girls finished second to Cottage Grove on Wednesday, April 9, in their only home match of the year.

The Huskies were led by Tanna Tyler, who shot 69 on the front nine, but came through the back nine with a 60 to finish with 129. Jillian Marvin had the low score for Sweet Home on the front nine with a 64, but had to drop out with a foot problem.

Cottage Grove scored 471 to Sweet Home’s 570. Creswell, Stayton and Lebanon golfers also competed but their teams were incomplete.

Haley Voldbaek shot 74-68-142 to finish second for the Huskies, followed by Emily Peabody (70-77-147) and Savana McCalister (79-83-152).

Boys at Salishan (Lincoln City) Tournament

Sweet Home won its second league tournament Tuesday, April 8, in the tournament hosted by Taft.

The Huskies were led by Travis Ramoz, who came in at 39-43-82 for second overall, to score 362, ahead of Taft (393) Newport (397) and Central (441).

“It was a tough golf course but we had good weather for this event,” said Coach Tom Horn.

Taylor Huschka was second for Sweet Home, shooting 42-48-90, followed by Nick Zahler (50-45-95), Jake Riggs (53-42-95) and Eric Holmes (56-51-107).
