The Huskies summer girls basketball team defeated Yamhill-Carlton twice in a Stayton tournament to place fourth, with a 2-4 tournament record.
The Huskies opened Thursday against Stayton, losing 37-21. They defeated Yamhill-Carlton 36-24 in the next game.
On Friday, the Huskies opened with 4A Sprague High School from Salem and lost by eight and then were beaten by Rainier.
“We ate lunch, and I think we got tired,” Coach Jason Gorham said. “We just didn’t play well. That was kind of our throwaway game where nobody really played well.”
Games Thursday and Friday determined seeding for the six-team tournament on Saturday.
On Saturday, Sprague defeated the Huskies 30-22 in the first round of the tournament.
The Huskies came back and beat Yamhill-Carlton 29-27 in overtime to finish fourth.
“We were missing three of our varsity girls who had softball or other commitments, so we had JV kids come up,” Gorham said. “We really played well for the personnel we had. I was really happy with the way we came together and played.”
The Huskies will finish their summer season in a 16-team camp at Seaside from June 28 to July 1.
