The Huskies varsity girls team ended its season with a 90-54 loss at La Pine on Feb. 14 and a 45-26 loss at home to Junction City on Thursday.
The team made improvements throughout the season, and they showed up during last week’s game play.
“I think we got the looks we were sort of trying to get to at the end of the season,” said Coach Robby Robinson. The team was finding 27 to 30 three-point shots and 45 to 50 two-point shots by the end.
“I don’t think we shot real well,” he said. “But we’re able to get off our shots without too many turnovers.”
Turnovers generally plagued the team, and Robinson thought the team had way too many unforced errors when a simple pass would have sufficed, he said. Still getting 75 to 80 shots up per game was a good sign.
“I liked our effort,” Robinson said. “I wasn’t frustrated with our lack of effort.”
The team’s small size made rebounding a constant and critical battle.
“A lot of times, it took all five rebounding all the time,” he said.
The team also didn’t have the defensive stops it needed, he said, and that’s part of the team’s goals.
In the off season, Robinson wants to try to build the team’s athleticism so it can rebound better and get the stops, he said.
Where the team was starting to shine was getting good looks even against good man-to-man defense, he said.
Against La Pine, Kendell Anderson and Megan Rubidoux led scoring with 13 points each, while Annie Whitfield scored 12 in a single quarter.
He appreciates all the time and effort the girls put into their game, their good attitudes and the hard work they put in all season, he said.
