Girls in top 10 at Cottage Grove tourney

The girls golf team started its season Tuesday, April 3, slightly undermanned but with solid individual performances.

Sisters won the six-team match at Middlefield Golf Course in Cottage Grove, finishing with 346, ahead of the hosts, who scored 425. La Pine was a close third with 428.

Sweet Home, Marist and Creswell did not field full teams, so did not place in the team scoring.

Individually, though, the Huskies placed two golfers in the top 10, Megan Moser, who shot 95 for sixth place and Janessa VanEpps, who took eighth with a 101. Tana Tyler also played, but did not complete four holes.

Individual medalist was Lindsay Reeves of Sisters, who shot a 76 on the par-67 course, followed by Alexis Pennington of Marist (82) and Holly Ewing of Cottage Grove (83).

“I was very pleased with our first match,” said Coach Jason Gorham. “Megan Moser played a solid round as did Janessa VanEpps. This is the first time we have placed two golfers in the top 10 at a match.”

Gorham said Tyler “played well for her first match.”

Sweet Home is scheduled to play today at Mallard Creek and Thursday at Arrowhead.
