Continuing to struggle on offense, the Sweet Home High School girls varsity basketball team lost 75-23 at Elmira Jan. 24 and 58-13 at home against Sutherlin Friday.
The two games wrapped up the first round of league play for the Huskies. They’ll start the second half of league Friday at home against Sisters, a team that Coach Dave McNeil believes his team can beat this time around.
Sisters beat the Huskies 21-13 on the road, but the Huskies were severely shorthanded that night.
Going into the second half of the season, “I’m pretty happy with our help-side defense,” McNeil said. “There’s still little stuff: How do we deal with screens? That’s something we’ll address (this week).”
Sisters runs a couple of screens that the Huskies will need to handle, he said.
“Offensively, it’s going to be a work in progress,” McNeil said. It’s mostly about “knowing when to drive and when not to. That comes with maturity. This is a young team.”
The Huskies play at 5:45 p.m. Friday. Tuesday they play at Junction City at 5:45.
