Philomath and Toledo both defeated the girls basketball team last week.
Philomath defeated the Huskies 45-24 on Tuesday at home.
“It was fairly close in the first quarter,” Coach Jason Gorham said. By the end of the quarter, Philomath put away enough to take a 10-6 lead, then stretched the lead decisively in the second for a 23-9 half-time lead and a 38-16 lead by the end of the second.
The girls played good defense but couldn’t get any offense going, Coach Gorham said.
Tabbi Trahan led scoring with 10 points. Chelsea Hackworth added seven; Nicki Aerni, three; Dani Thireault, two; and Korina Thompson, two.
Toledo defeated the girls 35-29 Friday night at Toledo.
“They came out and did a real good job on transition,” Coach Gorham said of Toledo. Toledo led 14-4 after one.
Toledo hit the O-boards and transition hard throughout the first half and built a 23-10 lead. At the same time, the Huskies had too many shots they normally make bounce, shooting only 15 percent the first half.
“We really played a good second half,” Coach Gorham said. The Huskies gave up no field goals in the third quarter. Toledo’s only points were three free throws. That got the Huskies back in the game, trailing just 26-21.
They cut the lead to four several times, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome completely in the fourth.
Coach Gorham was happy with the way the girls adjusted to Toledo, cutting offensive boards to just one, in the second half.
Hackworth led scoring with 10. Hannah Swanson added six; Trahan, five; Thireault, four; and Aerni, four.
