Girls rebound from Madras loss with Siuslaw win

Sweet Home’s girls bounced back last week from a 69-47 loss at Madras to execute a big win on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Siuslaw.

“We played well,” Coach Ericka Evans said, noting that the Huskies played balanced basketball in Florence.

“Our points were evenly divided amongst our team.”

Aaliyah Brown led the team with 12 points, followed closely by Brooke Elder with 11, Amara Gonzales with 10, and Addy Vannice with seven.

Evans said that her players all contributed to the assists  count – Sweet Home had 15 as a team which led to 21 field goals.

“Everybody had a part in getting turnovers, getting rebounds, taking open shots – it was a good team win,” she said.

Next up for the Huskies (4-7 going into this week) is the Oregon West Conference schedule, with the opener at home Tuesday, Jan. 21, against Philomath (11-2 and ranked No. 2 in the 4A as of Monday).

Friday, Jan. 24, Sweet Home will be on the road at Stayton (14-0, ranked No. 1 going into OWC play), followed by another road game Jan. 28 at North Marion (5-7 on Monday).
