For The New Era
Sweet Home’s girls soccer team continued to struggle last week in league play, losing both of their Week 6 matchups by three or more goals.
The Huskies, who have gone winless in five out of six weeks, were outscored by league rivals Stayton and Cascade by a total of 0-8.
They fell 3-0 to Stayton On Oct. 7 and 5-0 to Cascade.
Head Coach Ramiro Santana continues to hold an optimistic view though: “All our girls are playing better each game so we continue to do our best. We have improved our communication… Last year, Cascade beat us 8-0 both times in the first half… this year we played all 80 minutes and they only scored five goals.”
But Santana didn’t forget to underline where the Huskies need to improve: “We need to never give up no matter what the score is and play to the best that we can. We need to be better each game.”
He continued, “The message for our team is to continue playing. Don’t let the other team mercy-rule us and send us home early. We need to stay in and play all 80 minutes of the game. Our goal for the season is to continue to play to our best ability. Have fun, never give up, and stay strong. We are going to try to play all 80 minutes of each game.”
Sweet Home will hope to capture its first league (and second overall) victory of the year in Week 7, taking on Philomath, then Newport. The Green and Gold’s matchup against the Warriors will be at home, 6 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
