Girls soccer team loses to Gervais, Blanchett

Dealing with grade checks and discipline, the girls soccer team was short last week, fielding only nine of 11 players last Monday against Gervais.

The girls lost 4-1, Coach Eric Markell said. “It’s the first time we’ve ever lost to them. We weren’t ready to play mentally. It was just bad luck in the second half.”

Gervais led 3-0 at halftime, then the Huskies came alive, shutting down the second half.

“We had tons of opportunities to score,” Coach Markell said. Shots on goal just kept going wide.

The Huskies played better Thursday against Blanchett at home, losing 5-0.

“If we played the we did on Monday, we would have gotten killed,” Coach Markell said. Blanchett is leading the league and is undefeated.

Blanchett dominated the game, but finishing 5-0 instead of last year’s 11-0 was a big improvement.

“We played pretty good Thursday,” Coach Markell said. “They didn’t have any superstars,” but Blanchett had good players all around the team.

The girls hold a 1-7 record.
