Girls soccer to focus on passing, communication

Sweet Home girls soccer fell to 0-3 on the year last week with an 8-0 loss at Junction City on Sunday, Sept. 9.

Head Coach Ramiro Santana said one of the issues is injured players, with the maladies including concussions and ankle and knee problems. He also said that “four or five girls have never played the game before.”

Assistant Coach Kelsey Walker said that Saturday was the team’s first game with subs. “It was a little different in that aspect, she said. “We’re trying to see where everyone’s playing still.”

Walker also noted that the coaching staff has been having to put players who have played a certain position for a while into new positions “because we have holes there.”

“Everyone’s just kind of learning new things,” she said.

The coaches said the team has been working on passing, communication and first touches.

Walker said the team is also working on picking their head up. “Once you get the ball you gotta pick your head up and see where your players are,” she said. “We’re definitely working on that.”

This week the Huskies play at Western Christian (1-2) at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14.
