Sweet Home’s Laura Gourley put the squeeze on a Cottage Grove opponent during an exhibition match at the state wrestling tournament Feb. 28, which featured the finals of a girls state tournament held two weeks earlier at Cottage Grove. Gourley, who wrestled in the 158-and-over class, had little trouble with her opponent, running up a 20-2 lead before getting the whistle for a pin, said her father and coach, Jim Gourley, who was matside. She also pinned five opponents to reach the final, Jim Gourley said. Laura Gourley was named an ASICS All-America third-teamer in women’s wrestling last fall.
