Sweet Home 20 Cottage Grove “B” 0

“Our defense was where it needed to be during this game,” Coach Bob Church said.

Nicole Starha led the Husky scoring drive with six goals, aided by Britney Beard, 5, Megan Foucht, 4, Jill Gilliland, 3, and Christine Smith and Carissa Vancleave, 1 each.

S.H. 10 Lakeridge 6

“This was by far our best game of the tournament,” Coach Church said. “We were down 5-1 after the first quarter. They had a couple big, physical girls. I set Nicole and Britney to control them and they did. From the second quarter on, we controlled the game.”

Junior Megan Foucht fueled the scoring effort with five goals in the second and third quarters. “It was her best game of the season,” Coach Church said. “Nicole Starha had her best defensive game of the year. She shut down Lakeridge’s hole girl very effectively.”

S.H. 21 Sheldon 3

Nicole Starha hammered in eight goals to lead the girls to a 21-3 win over Sheldon Tuesday.

“This was a big win,” Coach Church said. “We had a lot of scoring and we got a lot of steals. It was a good day all around.”

The Huskies were ahead 17-1 at the half and pulled back a little to try different patterns in the second half.

Britney Beard and Jill Gilliland added four goals each, Andrea Yunke had two, Megan Foucht and Christine Smith had one each.

“This was a fun game,” Coach Church said. “We made Jill Gilliland our shooter in the third quarter. After her first goal, she liked it a lot.”

S.H. 18 Sprague 3

Britney Beard led the Huskies with six goals, followed by Nicole Starha, Megan Foucht and Andrea Yunke with three each and Jill Gilliland and Christine Smith with one goal each.

Boys Results

S.H. 18 Cottage Grove 2

The Huskies passed the ball well and transitioned well to win 18-2 over Cottage Grove.

Chris Bate led Husky scoring with seven goals. Adam Cheek had six, Rhys Birky, 2, and Jeff Ecker, 2.

S.H. 14 Park Rose 6

“They had two big guys and we put Adam Cheek and Chris Bate on them,” Coach Church said. “They kept busy on them. They best player was out of the game after the first period and their second best player was out at halftime. Our guys did a great job on them. We only had three ejections to their nine.”

Adam Cheek again proved to be a leading driver, scoring eight goals. He was aided by Rhys Birky with four and Chris Bate with two.

“This was a very nice team effort,” Coach Church said. “We made a lot of good switches.”

Sheldon 16 S.H. 12

Although they played a good game, the Huskies couldn’t overcome Sheldon Tuesday, losing 16-12.

“They moved the ball a lot,” Coach Church said. “They were a little more physical and had a little less speed than we expected. We needed more counter attacks. It was still a good game. They knew they had been in a game when we got done.”

Adam Cheek powed in 10 goals while Sean Martin and Chris Bate added one each.

S.H. 12 Sprague 4

Adam Cheek scored all four of Sweet Home’s goals in a 12-4 loss to Sprague Thursday at Sweet Home.

“Sprague put a lot of speed into the water,” Coach Church said. “They doubled up a lot on Adam and made our guys second guess themselves a lot. We became too tentative moving the ball.”

This week’s games…The Huskies will host Albany Thursday at Husky pool. The girls game will start at 4 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m.
