Goldie Carolene ‘Carol’ (Burks) Pipkin, 65, died while traveling in Israel on the Mount of Beatitudes in the arms of her husband, Bob, of 47 years.
She was born in Benkelman, Neb., to Archie and Dorothy (Ferguson) Burks.
She moved with her family to Sweet Home in 1951 and graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1958.
She and her husband moved to Salem in 1958, shortly after they were married.
Mrs. Pipkin worked for the Oregon State Tax Commission and the Military Department in Salem for 10 years. She then quit to become a stay-at-home mother.
She was an active member, including outreach ministries, of Salem First Church of the Nazarene.
She loved gardening, antiquing and entertaining family and friends. She loved to travel, both abroad and in the United States. She loved the Lord with all her heart. Loving her children and grandchildren was her greatest delight in life.
Mrs. Pipkin was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lois Burks; and brothers, Keith and Darl Burks.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughters, Charisse Opie (Rob) and Carmelle O’Dell (David); siblings, Forest, DeLane, Garry and Stan Burks and Rosalene Philip, Marilene Bertsch and Linda Nice; three grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held on March 3 at Gilliland Cemetery. A memorial service was held on March 6 at Salem First Church of the Nazarene.
Memorials may be given to the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in care of Salem First Church of the Nazarene.
Arrangements were under the direction of Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
