Golfers third at Junction City

Taylor Huschka paced the Sweet Home boys golf team to fourth place at the Junction City Invitational at the Diamond Woods Golf Course Friday, April 25, shooting a 79 to win medalist honors for the tournament by a stroke.

It was the second win of the year for Huschka, who shot 37-42-79.

Nick Zahler and Travis Ramoz both shot 90 for the Huskies, with Jake Riggs coming in at 97 and Markus Thedford at 104 to give Sweet Home a total of 356. Tillamook took the team victory with 343, followed by Springfield (353) and Junction City (355).

The Huskies had a difficult day at Agate Beach on Tuesday, April 22, plaing in a steady downpour –”the worst conditions of the year,” according to Coach Tom Horn.

Huschka was second with an 81, as Ross Martin of Newport took medalist honors with a 72.

Ramoz finished with an 97, Zahler with an 88 and Riggs with 92.

The Huskies lead the Val-Co standings with 16 points, with Taft and Newport tied at 10.

“We’re looking strong in league and we’re hoping to put the finishing touches on a league championship,” Horn said. “We can almost put it away with a win at Oak Knoll.”

Sweet Home played there Tuesday afternoon, after The New Era went to press. The Huskies will play at districts on Monday, May 5, at Trysting Tree in Corvallis.

The Sweet Home girls, who did not play last week, will play at Aspen Lakes the same day.
