Gordon Mengore, 82, of Sweet Home died April 7, 2008.
He was born in Negaunee, Mich., to Anton and Lilly (Lampry) Mengore.
During his life he has lived in Michigan, Butte, Mont., and in Sweet Home, where he resided for 43 years.
Mr. Mengore served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman on the USS Wichita and the USS Boise during World War II. Afterwards he worked as a miner in Michigan and Butte, Mont., and as a construction worker. He helped build the Foster, Green Peter and Blue River dams. He was baptized as a Catholic.
He loved gold panning, fishing, playing cribbage, dancing, rock collecting and wine making.
Mr. Mengore is survived by his two sons, Joe G. Mengore and David M. Mengore; daughters Karen L. Mengore-McCracken and Robin Partelow; sister Margaret Rickenback of Detroit, Mich.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
