It is truly unfortunate that someone had the uncontrollable urge to deface the new police car mural downtown.
Whoever did it obviously does not know or, more likely, does not care about the amount of time, effort, and money that went into that project.
It is a slap in the face to the entire community but more so to our police officers whose dedication it is intended to honor. I am sure the damage to the mural can be repaired. What cannot be so easily repaired is the statement it makes about our community.
Every visitor to our town leaves with an impression. Those heading west will leave with a less than favorable one until the damage to the mural can be repaired. Incidents such as this make one wonder if community service is worth the effort.
