Grant will help make homes safer for seniors

The Sweet Home Senior Center has received a $250 challenge grant from AARPís Oregon Independent Living Project. Donations were received from Joel Keesekcer at Unified Insurance, Craig Fentiman at Farmer’s Insurance, Beth Lambert at State Farm Insurance and from the U.S. Forestry Department Coffee Fund to complete the $250 challenge match.

These funds will be used to purchase grab bars, non-skid adhesive strips, dead bolts, smoke detectors and other safety devices to make homes safer for seniors.

The Caring Team Ministry of East Linn County needs volunteers to train to install these items properly and SALT needs volunteers to be trained to do home safety surveys for seniors in the Sweet Home area.

Please contact Jean McKinney at the Sweet Home Senior Center 367-4775 or Noreen Milsap at the Sheriffís Office 259-6126 if you would be willing to receive this training and provide such a service to seniors in the Sweet Home area.

“We hope to be able to start providing the service early this summer,” McKinney said.
