Grapplers down Nestucca lose to Central Linn

Sweet Home grapplers overpowered Nestucca 82-0 but fell to a well-balanced Central Linn squad 38-25 Dec. 30 at home.

“We just wrestled poorly against a very strong Central Linn team,” Coach Thorpe said. “The Central Linn kids have been working together for several years. They’ve done what it takes to make a good team.”

Coach Thorpe said Jon Farris at 135 “did a great job and won a good match 5-4.”

He added heavyweight Chris Kelley lost to Kole Logan 14-4 but “wrestled one of his best matches ever.”

“He did some very good things,” Coach Thorpe said.

Central Linn is considered one of top 2A schools in the state, Coach Thorpe said.

The Huskies have been practicing every day over the Christmas break.

“We’ll have our guys at their regular weights come Wednesday against Molalla,” Coach Thorpe said. “Friday we head to Redmond for the Oregon Classic. We’re getting into position for our district meet.”

Molalla kicks off the Husky Capital Conference season and will come to town loaded for bear.

“Molalla is ranked No. 3 in the state and has four returning state placers including state champion Steve Daley at 152/160. They are a very good team,” Coach Thorpe said. “I’d just as soon start with a tough team right off the bat.”
