Grave site thieves provoke outrage

Editor:

Our family has experienced the love and support that our community has to offer during the illness and passing of our little boy, Tristan Varner, this past summer. Now we are experiencing the other side, the maliciousness and cold-heartedness that resides in our community.

I just returned from a visit to Tristan’s grave, where I discovered that a Christmas tree I had left there for him has been stolen. Members of our family and some of our friends had recently spent some time at his graveside remembering him and celebrating the placement of his headstone.

We also left two small Christmas trees there for him. Now there is one. How someone can remove anything from a grave is beside me, but to take something like this from a 9-year-old’s grave is just mean.

I am angry; I’m not good at hiding that. But I won’t judge.

Whoever took it will be judged by someone much more powerful than me. If you are the one who stole Tristan’s tree, your day will come and I suggest you ask for forgiveness now.
