H. Bruce Battey, 94, of Lebanon, passed away Monday, December 26th at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
He was born August 11, 1917 in Sodus, New York to Seward and Ruth (Shaver) Battey.
Bruce was raised and educated in Sodus. After graduating from high school, he worked for a short time for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York. He then attended the University of Michigan where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and met his wife, Madelene.
Bruce married Madelene Felch on May 31, 1942 in Dearborn, Michigan. They moved to Massachusetts where he worked at M.I.T. developing radar systems. 1959, Bruce and Madelene moved to Malibu, California where they raised their children and several horses. He worked for Planning Research Corporation and McDonnell Douglas and later worked as a real estate agent until retiring. After retirement, they moved to Idaho to be closer to their daughter, Dorothy. Bruce and Madelene moved to Oregon in the early 1980s and settled in Sweet Home before moving to Lebanon in 1999.
He is survived by his daughters Maggie Winslow and her husband Duane and Dorothy Gaspard all of Sweet Home; his sons Robert Battey and his wife Mickey of California and William Battey of Venice, California; grandchildren Eric, Faith, Michael, Jennifer, Chris, Megan, Matt, Tammy, and Pamela; and great- grandchildren Paige, Corbin, Nalani, Gatlyn, Caleb, Jacob, Jeremy, Jasmine, and Bella with another great-grandchild expected in May.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Madelene on May 11, 2007; brother Robert Battey; and son-in-law Jerry Gaspard.
Services will be held at a later date.
