Happy farewell

Tristan Varner arrives at a special barbecue at Foster School, where he attended third grade last year. Tristan, 9, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in early July, was treated to one of his final wishes, barbecued chicken, by the Sweet Home Elks and Denim and Pearls Catering on July 24. The event was put together by Jo Ann McQueary, locally representing the Make A Wish Foundation. The Knox Brothers performed, and children enjoyed a variety of games and a petting zoo. Linn County sheriff’s deputies escorted Tristan’s limousine to the school. Tristan died Saturday morning after Sugarland fulfilled a final wish and met him backstage before taking the stage Friday night. For more information, see the Obituaries section.
