Harold McDowell

April 3, 1943 – June 18, 2021

Harold “Butch” Wilson McDowell, 78, of Sweet Home, died June 18, 2021.

He was born April 3, 1943 in Piru, Calif., to Woodrow Wilson and Rosella Marie (Carter) McDowell. 

He entered the United States Marines in 1962 and served until 1966 and then he served in the reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1968. 

Mr. McDowell grew up in Piru until he went into the service. He married Kathy in 1964 in Scio, after which they were stationed in San Diego at Camp Pendleton until 1966. They then moved to Las Vegas in 1966, where he worked at the Nevada test site.

In 1971 the McDowells moved to Santa Paula, Calif., where Mr. McDowell drove a cement mixer. In 1977 they moved to Oregon where he was a truck driver. 

He was involved in many things – 4-H, AWANA at First Baptist Church in Brownsville, and Babe Ruth baseball. 

Mr. McDowell is survived by his daughter, Donna McDowell of Lebanon; sons Brian and David McDowell of Sweet Home; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Janet and Louise; and a brother, Kirk. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy McDowell; father Woodrow McDowell; and mother Rosella McDowell. 

Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Sweet Home Veterans Club. A potluck will follow the service. 

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
