Harvey leads Huskies with personal-best golf score

Trent Harvey shot a 79 to lead Sweet Home’s boys in their only home golf competition Wednesday, April 2, at Mallard Creek. 

The sophomore’s score, which tied his personal best, gave him fourth place in the competition, which included Cascade, Churchill, Junction City, Marist, North Marion, Philomath, Santiam Christian, Silverton, Sprague and Stayton. 

Easton Perry broke the 100 barrier to finish with 95 for the Huskies, who finished eighth in the 12-team field. Perry was 33rd in the 56-player field. 

Senior RJ Abbott, a rookie to high school golf, finished with a 101 (42nd), closely followed by sophomore Zane Garrett’s 103 (46th). Sophomore Daniel McCubbins 53rd with 112,  and senior Gavin Gardner 54th with 116, rounded out the Huskies’ scoring.

Sweet Home plays in the toughest 4A Division district in the state – eight of the top 10 ranked 4A players are in Special District 2. Sweet Home is ranked 14th out of 22 4A teams early in the season. 

On the girls side, sophomore Victoria Victor led Sweet Home with a 122, good for 13th place and a personal best. Junior Averi Temple shot 133, placing her 25th, and senior Crimson Ring-Emmert, also new to golf, was 28th with a 137. 

Also participating in the girls tournament were Blanchet Catholic, Cascade, Marist Catholic, Newport, North Marion, Philomath, Santiam Christian, Sheldon and Taft.
