Hay Fire

Firefighter Mike Severns drags a hose toward burning hay stacked on a trailer on Ames Creek Drive.

Sweet Home firefighters responded to the fire at 2:42 p.m. on Friday. The fire investigation was unable to determine a cause for the fire. A witness reported that the fire suddenly started on top of the hay, according to the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance Fire District report. Firefighters knocked down the flames, and the owner of the truck and trailer, Larry Chafin, backed it onto nearby property owned by his daughter so firefighters could mop up the fire but open the roadway to traffic. Chafin was transporting the hay home to be used for feed.
