Hayward Solon Bellah II, 74, of Sweet Home, died May 2, 2023.
He was born Jan. 24, 1949, in Martinsville, Ind., to Hayward Solon and Barbara (Cornett) Bellah.
He retired as a command sergeant major from the Army after serving 30 years. He was also a chef and a food industry manager.
Mr. Bellah married Christina Park in December 1990 in Vancouver, Wash.
Mr. Bellah enjoyed prepping, politics, gardening, and was a firearms instructor with the National Rifle Association. He volunteered at Manna, helped at SHEM and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was honored to be a member of the Board of the National Vietnam War in Mineral Wells, Texas.
He was part of the Army’s “The Old Guard,” a ceremonial unit that was present for special occasions and presidential celebrations.
Mr. Bellah is survived by his wife Christina of Sweet Home; sons Hayward III and Kelly of Indiana, Bret and daughter-in-law Tina of Florida, and James and Michael of Sweet Home; sister Kathy and brother-in-law Curt Walters of Indiana; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Bellah will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made, along with a letter “In Memory of CSM Hayward Bellah” to the National Vietnam War Memorial, P.O. Box 1779, Weatherford, TX, 76086.
