Hazel E. Munts

Hazel Munts, 90, of Sweet Home died Sept. 23, 2006.

She was born Feb. 21, 1916 in Sweet Home to Arthur and Mary (Mattke) Ehlert.

She graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1934 and worked as a nurse at the Sweet Home Langmack Hospital until marrying Arley Rowe Munts on Nov. 14, 1937. During WWII she was an aircraft spotter stationed at the Calapooia observation tower.

Her civic involvement included local voting precinct work for 40 years that included about 30 years as precinct chairperson.

Mrs. Munts had a wide range of interests both indoor and outdoor, including rock hunting, prospecting, genealogy, local history, needle work, hunting, traveling, spending winters in Arizona, amateur radio on call sign WA7QZV and antique roses.

She is survived by sons, Steven Munts of Spokane, Wash., and Kenneth Munts of Sweet Home; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Munts was preceded in death by her husband, Arley Rowe Munts, in 1998 and an infant sister, Inez Helen Ehlert, in 1923.

Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Gilliland Cemetery. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
