Hazel Margaret Rakestraw, 89, of Sweet Home, died Jan. 3.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1916 in White Cloud, Kan., to Fred and Elizabeth (Schrieber) Weathers.
She moved to Brownsville from Colorado in 1947. She worked many years as a CNA at the Mennonite Home. She also did home health. She enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, reading, and her grandchildren. She was a member of American War Mothers, Christian Adventurers, Brownsville Senior Center, and her church. She was very active at the First Baptist Church of Brownsville and was one of its oldest members.
She is survived by: her daughters Jean, and son-in-law Dee, Kershaw of Beaverton, and Marilyn, and son-in-law Joe, Jenkins of Sweet Home; her son, Earl (Stella) Rakestraw of Oxnard, Calif.; her brothers, Harold Weathers, Stanley Weathers, and John Weathers; her sister, Ruby Shepherd; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her husband Earl Rakestraw in 1996.
A funeral service was held Jan. 7 at First Baptist Church of Brownsville. Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel handled the arrangemennts.
