Helen J. Schwab, 92, of Sweet Home, died Monday in Sweet Home.
Mrs. Schwab was born Oct. 6, 1913 in Lebanon, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Brooks) Bland. She attended schools at Stoltz Hill and Lebanon High School before gradating from Sweet Home High School in 1935.
She married Edward Schwab on June 2, 1935 in the Liberty area of Sweet Home. They settled on the Schwab Farm on Liberty Road in Sweet Home. She resided there until moving in with her daughter in 2001. Mr. Schwab preceded her in death in 1958.
Mrs. Schwab worked as a cannery worker, forklift operator, egg candler and field boss for a number of years all the while keeping up and running the family farm.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America since 1957 and had served as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilting. She made afghans for the whole family and also blankets for each of her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Minnie and Danny Knutson of Lebanon; her son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Verna Schwab of Sweet Home; sisters, Mary McIntosh and Billie Bocskay, both of Seattle; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson Bruce Knutson, her great-grandson Axle Schwab, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 16, at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Private burial was at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery.
