Here’s the deal on SHHS reunion

Editor:

Sweet Home Alumni Foundation is giving you a “heads-up” about our Saturday, July 14, Alumni All-Years Reunion 2012 event, “Once Upon a Time at Sweet Home High – 100 Years of Memories 1912-2012.”

Reunion 2012 is presented by Sweet Home Alumni Foundation. Established by alumni in 1992 for the purpose of providing scholarships for college to graduating seniors at Sweet Home High School, SHAF has gone from awarding one scholarship in 1992 to 38 in 2011. We know many of you who own our local businesses are alumni of Sweet Home High.

We expect 2,000-plus alumni to return “home” for Reunion 2012, so expect Sweet Home to be a boom town for the weekend. SHAF hopes that you will roll out the “Welcome” mat for our visitors. Some suggestions might include painting welcome signs in business windows, coupon offerings, special store displays, special events, etc. Anything that would let Sweet Home High School alumni know that we are glad they’re here and will show them what a fine community we have.

During the day, Saturday, July 14, SHAF is planning an Alumni Classic Car Show, Alumni Art and Quilt Display and Class, Memory Lane at the high school, a program from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Husky Field, and a dance and social later in the evening at the Elks Lodge. We will have a commemorative alumni news magazine for all those who attend that will feature SHHS history, local advertising, alumni news and much more. That is what we have planned; we welcome your ideas too. You may contact the Reunion 2012 Committee with your ideas.

June 14 is also Sweet Home’s annual Sportsman’s Holiday, so there will be a parade, rodeo, Working Loggers Olympics, fireworks, food booths and other entertaining activities for our guests. Alumni will be visiting our local restaurants, stores and other businesses in town.

We are eager to host this, our third alumni reunion in the past 20 years, and want you to share in the excitement and fun. The Reunion 2012 invitation was sent in February to more than 7,000 alumni of Sweet Home High School.

One item that we are looking for is large bags with handles to put shirt orders, local information, the alumni news magazine and other items in. The bags can have a logo or sponsor name on them. At this time we anticipate needing around 2,000 bags, so if someone would like to sponsor the bags, please let us know!
