Hervel Hensley

1940-2006

Hervel Hensley was born in Veneta, Okla., in 1940. His family moved to Oregon in 1951.

Mr. Hensley graduated from Sweet Home High School, where he was student body president. He then attended Northwest Christian Bible College in Kirkland, Wash., where he met and later married his wife of 45 years, Ida Baker.

He was in the ministry in Oregon and then in Alaska.

He worked for and retired from the Alaskan state government and then relocated to Desert Hot Springs, Calif. There, he was an avid golfer, an artist and painter. He loved to travel. He was passionate about gourmet cooking and his grandchildren.

Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife, Ida of Desert Hot Springs; four children, Shawn of Anchorage, Alaska, Sharla of Bend, Micheal of Bend and Kevin of Jackson, Miss.; parents, Dick and Alice Hensley of Eugene; sister, Janet Hensley of Eugene; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of life memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 25 at Open Bible Fellowship, 1295 Taney St., Eugene.
