Despite a lower-than-normal turnout after a year’s hiatus, a dozen runners gave it a serious effort Saturday morning in the Sportsman’s Holiday Mile Saturday morning.
Honorary starter was Sweet Home High School Class of 1966 graduate Jay Kitchin, who ran entire distance from his home in Vancouver, Wash., in legs over the past two weeks, finishing the last segment, from Lebanon, and then running the race as his final mile. Kitchin collected sponsorships to raise money for Sweet Home Alumni Foundation scholarships.
Jakob Hiett, 15, was the male winner, finishing first in 5:12. Paige Sanders, 17, was the first female, in 6:17.
