High school to stage fall play

For The New Era

Everyone has heard of a haunted house, maybe even a haunted theater. But a haunted play?

Sweet Home High School students will perform a play called “Ax of Murder” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18, at the high school theater.

Cost is two cans of food benefitting the Thanksgiving baskets. Extra canned food and money donations are welcomed.

The play is put on by the theater elective students. Practice takes place during fifth-period class time and after school. Teacher Chella Gehrett is the boss in a sense, but the play is completly student-led and produced.

“Ax of Murder” is a murder mystery in two acts. It is about a playwright, Colleen Chambers, who is hired under the director of a small theater, Bonnie Bagwell. The audience is then given the opportunity to help pick the play, but the curiosity of the cast gets the best of them when Colleen freaks about about a specific script. Could the script really be the ghost of a man who died in the theater? Is he really going to keep killing until he gets his vengence on the person who murdered him?

Cast members include: Nicole Gould, Jill Wilson, Jessica Trautwein, Kari Derrickson, Nikki Marrs, Loren Rye, Sam Gould, Lacey Hightower, Aaron Garrett, Kahlista Sparks, Miles Beaudreau, Jess Keys, Kathy Wilson, Donovan West, and Gehrett, who plans to act because actress Jo Stalheim will be unable to perform.
