Highway 20 reopens to traffic

U.S. 20 east of Sweet Home reopened to through traffic as of 1:30 p.m. Friday, about half a day earlier than scheduled.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is nearing completion of a landslide repair project, which rebuilt a retaining wall and realigned and reconstructed a portion of the road that had been damaged by landslides between mileposts 56 and 56.2, east of House Rock Campground.

The road surface was also improved in portions between mileposts 55.4 and 56.2.

Daytime closures will continue through October. Work will require daytime single-lane closures from 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, through October.

Traffic will be controlled by flaggers between mileposts 54 and 57.

The full highway closure, originally scheduled for Sept. 9-21, started two days late due to the pause in highway work during wildfire red flag conditions the weekend of Sept. 10-11.
