Hiromi Bean

Hiromi M. Bean, 76, of Sweet Home died Nov. 10. 2018.

She was born Jan. 31, 1942 in Naha, Okinawa, Japan to Shinko and Kimie (Tomihira) Miyashiki.

She went to college in Tokyo. After she graduated, she went back to Okinawa where she met Jim Bean who was serving in the United States Marine Corps. They married in 1966 in Okinawa.

After James Jr. was born, they moved to Forest Grove in 1970.

Mrs. Bean worked to gain her citizenship. She became a proud American in 1972 and an active Republican. The Beans lived in the Portland area for a few years before moving to Sweet Home in 1978, where Jim was a police officer and city councilman.

Mrs. Bean was an avid reader. She loved the Sweet Home library. She was active in donating to and supporting the Jim Bean Memorial Bikes and Helmets Safety Fair.

Mrs. Bean was very involved in the Linn County Republican Party for several years. She was very proud of her granddaughter, Jasmine Bean, who received her nursing degree and was happy to attend her graduation. She was very pro-education. She believed that a good education was a great equalizer.

Mrs. Bean is survived by son, James and his wife Patty Bean of Carson City, Nev.; sister Chizuko and her husband Rutherford of Sanger, Calif.; two grandchildren; one nephew; and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bean, in 2010.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at Sweet Home Subway, where she was a regular customer.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Bean’s name should be made to Sweet Home Public Library.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
