Pick up some extra flashlight batteries and get the apple cider warming…this year’s community Christmas parades are being merged into a nighttime event to be held December 7 at 5:30 p.m.
The annual daytime parade, sponsored by the Ambassadors, is being rolled into the third annual lighted truck parade, according to Carla Hendrickson of the Chamber of Commerce.
The move is being made due to needed staffing by the Ambassadors, who have sponsored the daytime event for more than 20 years.
The decision was made last Wednesday evening during a meeting of representatives from the City of Sweet Home, Chamber of Commerce, Ambassadors, and local retailers.
Local businesses are being encouraged to hold open houses that evening and to remain open longer to accommodate visitors to the community.
It was suggested that businesses serve hot cider or provide candy canes for youngsters who bring in their Christmas stocking.
A community tree lighting is being planned to kick off the parade, according to City Manager Craig Martin.
Local bazaars may adjust their hours of operation to coincide with the new parade schedule.
The Singing Christmas Tree will hold three performances over the weekend, 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Singing Tree’s theme is “The Many Faces of Christmas.”
