For The New Era
Holley Church members on Sunday, Aug. 24, chose to volunteer in community service jobs around the city of Sweet Home instead of having services.
Pastor Kevin Hill said the goal was “to show God’s kindness in a practical way.”

Between 50 and 100 volunteers selected from a menu of jobs to participate in, based on ability. Choices were as follows:
- Gas buy-down at Main Street Market and Mobile station: Holley Church paid for gas for random customers;
- Holley Elementary School Library move-in: Volunteers assisted in organizing books;
- Sweet Home Boys & Girls Club bark project: Volunteers loaded and spread bark at the club;
- Trash pickup on Long Street and at Key Bank;
- Sweet Home Charter School outdoor landscaping; and
- Sweet Home High School Booster Club Snack Bar organization and cleanup to get ready for the start of the new school year.
Volunteers also worked inside the church building in Holley, removing wallpaper in the classrooms, making Halloween bags for Friends of the Library, and holding prayer sessions for the community.
