Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation is offering a number of scholarships to students pursuing degrees in the medical field.
The deadline to apply for all of the following scholarships is April 30.
Winners will be announced by June 1.
n The Rachel Easton, RN, Nursing Scholarship is offered for college students from east Linn County, who are accepted into a nursing program. The deadline to apply for the $1,000 scholarship is April 30. Winners will be announced by June 1.
The scholarship is named for Rachel Easton, who was a longtime nurse at the Samaritan Park Street Clinic in Lebanon.
All applicants must submit an official transcript including fall 2016 grades, a one- or two-page typed statement discussing why you are pursuing a nursing degree and listing your goals; a completed application form and a Cost and Resource Estimate Work Sheet; any special circumstances you might like the Easton Scholarship Committee to consider; and a signed and dated letter of recommendation from someone who knows you well.
n The Frank Girod, MD, Scholarship is offered for medical students from east Linn County.
East Linn County residents enrolled in medical school are eligible for the scholarship, named for the late Frank Girod, MD, a primary care physician who was instrumental in the establishment of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
Scholarship amounts have ranged from $1,500 to $8,000 per year. Previous recipients of the scholarship are now working across the country, from Hawaii to New York.
Applicants must submit an application, available from the foundation office at the hospital, as well as a written statement about their goals and any community service involvement.
n The John and Carol Dinges Medical Scholarship is offered for east Linn County students enrolled in an entry-level health care program at Linn-Benton Community College.
Examples of entry-level programs include certified medical assistant, certified nursing assistant, medical office specialist and dental assistant.
First preference for the $1,000 scholarship will be given to seniors and graduates of Lebanon High School, but seniors and graduates at all high schools in east Linn County are invited to apply.
