House fire out when firefighters arrive, but woman burned in Rice Road blaze

Sweet Home paramedics transported a woman burned in a Rice Road house fire to Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital Sunday.

Due to privacy restrictions, the woman was not identified. She was later transported to the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.

The fire was reported at 3:17 p.m. at 25360 Rice Road, which is located off Upper Calapooia Drive.

Firefighters arrived to find the fire was out, said Fire Chief Mike Beaver. “The house was charged with smoke when we got there.”

The firefighters ventilated the home and then opened the ceiling to make sure the fire had not extended into the attic, Beaver said. The fire apparently burned itself out.

It caused an estimated $35,000 in damage, he said.

The cause remains under investigation.

The home is owned by Georgia Sullivan.
