A large Sweet Home contingent of fans traveled to Cascade Thursday to watch the Huskies upend the Cougars 39-23 for the second time this season.
“It’s always gratifying to see so many Sweet Home fans, espcially at an away meet,” Coach Steve Thorpe said. “There aren’t many teams that get such support. We appreciate it greatly.”
The Huskies knew going into the matchup that Cascade would be a force to reckon with and they were right.
“There were a lot of matches Thursday that we might see again in the district finals or even the state championship finals,” Coach Thorpe said.
Coach Thorpe said his Huskies wrestled with several cases of the flu.
He said Chad Emmert at 112 pounds and Eric Lambert at 152 pounds both had excellent matches, even though both lost.
Emmert was decisioned 9-7 by two-time state champion Brett Phillips and Lambert was decisioned 15-6 by McManaman who was fourth at state last year.
“You never have to wonder whether Chad will wrestle his best,” Coach Thorpe said. “He gives it all he has all the time. Eric really took it to McManaman. He’s coming along very well.”
Coach Thorpe also praised 215 pounder Daniel Brewer as being a solid influence on the team.
“Daniel has some excellent workout partners in Rob Martin, Logan Cooley and Andy Ellis and it’s paying off for him,” Coach Thorpe said.
