Huskies beat 11th-ranked North Marion, Taft

The Husky baseball team defeated longtime Capital Conference rival North Marion 8-2 on April 20 at home.

“Adam Hummer, Greg Sipe and Kyle Pettit combined to throw a two-hitter,” Coach Dan Tow said. “We really got good pitching and pretty good defense tonight.

“I thought it was about as well as we’ve played all year. We got a number of big hits, including the two homeruns. I thought the kids had great effort and really put together a nice game.”

At the plate, Pettit went 2-4 with a double, homerun and four RBIs. Skyler Bascom went 1-4 with a two-run homerun. Brad Valloni went 1-2 with an RBI.

Sipe went 1-3 with a double, and Tyler Horner went 1-1.

Carl Mason started at pitcher for North Marion, which was ranked 11th in the state. Martinsen pitched in relief and was credited the loss.

Sipe collected the win at the mound pitching in relief for starter Hummer. Pettit relieved Sipe.

Sweet Home 13, Taft 2

The Huskies dominated Taft on April 18 at home, winning 13-2 in five innings.

“We did a good job scoring runs in every inning, and our pitching and defense were sharp,” Tow said. “We had a number of guys get big hits, and that’s something we haven’t been getting enough of.

“Kyle (Pettit) and Skyler (Bascom) both drove in a lot of runs, and Chaz (Davis) did a nice job of hitting in key situations as well.”

At bat, Pettit went 2-3 with a three-run home run and four RBIs. Sipe went 2-2 with a pair of doubles. Davis went 2-3 with two RBIs. Bascom went 1-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Pettit pitched the entire game and collected the win.

Willoughby started for Taft and was credited the loss. Roldan and Sawyer pitched in relief.
