Huskies blown out by Philomath, beat Central in baseball

The Philomath Warriors defeated the Huskies baseball team 15-5 in six innings Friday on the road.

“Philomath really hit the ball and just basically whipped us,” Coach Dan Tow said. “Our kids didn’t give up. In fact, we really hit the ball pretty well.

“Our defense wasn’t that bad either. They just hit the ball hard and scored a bunch of runs.

“Philomath has a very experienced and strong club, and they showed it today.”

At bat, Tyler Horner went 2-2 with two doubles and scored three runs. Greg Sipe went 2-4 with three RBIs. J.P. Williams went 2-4 with two RBIs.

For Philomath, Trevor Motter went 4-4, and Josh Bitterman went 2-4 with two homeruns.

Greg Sipe was starting pitcher. Shelby Johnston and Williams pitched in relief.

David Sturner was the winning pitcher. Haynes pitched in relief.

Sweet Home 6, Central 4

The Huskies defeated Central 6-4 on the road on April 1.

“J.P. threw a great game on the mound, with six strikeouts and only two walks,” Tow said. “Our defense played pretty well, and we got big hits when we needed them. This was a good win on the road against a good Central team.”

At bat, Brock Cota went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Sipe went 1-4 with a double and two RBIs. Steven Bidwell went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Tyler Holly and Williams also hit singles.

For Central, Hamilton went 3-3 with two doubles.

Williams was the starting and winning pitcher. Sipe pitched in relief and got the save.

Hamilton was the losing pitcher. Traglia pitched in relief.

Junction City turned a one-run deficit around in the bottom of the seventh inning to turn defeat into a 3-1 victory with a home run on the diamond at Junction City Monday.

“We led 1-0 in the seventh and gave up a run on a wild pitch, and then they beat us with a two-run homerun,” Coach Dan Tow said. “Our kids played a good game tonight against a good team.

“I would like to see us score more runs, but this was a well-played game by both teams. Junction City has a good club.

“Our pitching and defense were both very good. We committed only one error and had excellent pitching the entire game.”

Greg Sipe was starting pitcher. Shelby Johnston and J.P. Williams, receiving credit for the loss, pitched in relief. Nick Thielman was the winning pitcher. At bat, Brock Cota went 2-3, and Williams went 1-3 with a double. Cody Garner hit Junction City’s home run.

With the loss, the Huskies are 3-2. The undefeated junior varsity squad defeated Junction City 18-3.
