After delivering spirited performances at the 2024 USA Cheerleading Nationals in Anaheim, Calif., the Sweet Home High School (SHHS) Huskies cheerleading squad, led by Coach Amber Rosa, made their mark in the fiercely competitive arena, showcasing both skill and resilience.
In a division brimming with talent from across the nation, the Huskies faced off against formidable opponents, demonstrating their determination and dedication throughout the competition.
Out of 37 competing teams, the Huskies secured a commendable 15th place finish in the largest division of the event. Despite narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals by a mere half-point, the team’s efforts were lauded by Coach Rosa.
“We were a mere half point away from making finals and only 3.6 points away from first place. That’s how tight the spread was,” she remarked.
The Huskies’ resilience was evident as they proudly represented Oregon, being the only school from the state to secure a placement in their division. Coach Rosa expressed her pride in the team’s accomplishments, stating, “The trip to Disneyland was a perfect way to celebrate their hard work and unwind after the competition.”
In the crowd leader division, Coach Rosa said the Huskies delivered an exceptional performance, showcasing their skills and teamwork, although they did not advance to the finals in this division.
“Of course we hoped to place higher but the kids had an amazing performance and we couldn’t be prouder to hang with all of those huge schools from all over the nation. Four schools from Oregon competed in our division and we were the only one to place, which was an honor,” she said.
Following the intense competition, the Huskies traded their cheerleading uniforms for Mickey ears, embarking on a trip to Disneyland.
“The girls worked incredibly hard leading up to and during the competition, so it was important for them to have some fun and decompress afterward.”
As they return home, the Huskies cheerleading squad will cherish the experiences and friendships forged during their time at the USA Cheerleading Nationals and Disneyland. With heads held high and hearts full of pride, they look forward to their next challenge under the mentorship of Coach Amber Rosa.
