Sweet Home 3, La Pine 0
The Huskies girls soccer team earned its second win of the season 3-0 hosting La Pine on Thursday.
“We’re playing better,” said Coach Ramiro Santana. “I wish we could have a lot more pre-season games just to get the team better established and the pieces put together.”
The girls are still moving around the field and trying out different positions, and “we are playing better every game,” Santana said.
But that didn’t stop the Huskies from putting together a win in its league opener.
The Huskies scored two goals in the first half, the first from Haley Kent and the second from Alana Long. Katie Virtue scored the third goal in the second half.
“All three of them can do that any time,” Santana said.
Kent worked the field all game instead of spending half of it at goal, Santana said. “This was her first time out in the field.”
Sabrina Davis, who usually plays defense when Kent’s in the goal, was hurt playing against Central. She could still play goalie, so she spent the entire game there, notching about a dozen saves against about the same number of shots.
The Huskies took 23 shots on goal, Santana said. “We were controlling it most of the time.”
The Hawks had their opportunities though, Santana said, and Davis stopped four tough shots from hitting the net.
“Our defense played very solid,” he said.
The junior varsity team defeated La Pine 13-0.
