Stayton posed no problems for the Husky grapplers Thursday, as Sweet Home sailed to a 67-3 Capital Conference win at home.
“We didn’t have anyone who didn’t wrestle well,” said Coach Steve Thorpe.
Neil Workman, 119, had a strong match over Joe Michel, ahead 7-6 when Michel defaulted.
“Neil beat a very good wrestler. He outlasted him and out conditioned him.”
Coach Thorpe said that although Levi McCubbins lost 7-2 at 160 pounds to A.J. Lawrence, he wrestled very well.
“Levi competed well and is getting better every week,” Coach Thorpe said.

Almason, Workman champs at Dallas mat tournament

“Ross and Neil both wrestled very well,” said Coach Steve Thorpe. “Overall, we didn’t wrestle all that well, but it was a little hard to gauge because we had to pull out so many guys because they have too many matches before districts.”
Sweet Home won three and lose one in the tournament.
Other Huskies earning praise from Coach Thorpe was brothers Israel and David Helfrich. Several Huskies wrestled even though they suffered from the flu.
